Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) honored Women of Distinction from each town within the 94th Assembly District who serve as examples in their communities at Carmel Town Hall this past Saturday. Honorees for the Women of Distinction are selected through nominations submitted by local municipalities. The women honored were Serafina Mastro of Yorktown; Marianne Chaluisan of Carmel; Jennifer Cassidy of Southeast; Angela Maass of Patterson; Meg Timone of Somers; Wendy Whetsel of Putnam Valley; and Jaime McGlasson of Kent. Slater was joined by local elected officials, family and friends of honorees and past Women of Distinction winners.
“It’s truly an honor to stand alongside these remarkable women who represent the very best of our communities,” said Slater. “They go above and beyond, both personally and professionally, and remind us of the power of compassion and real leadership. In a time when selflessness is increasingly rare, these women set a shining example.”
Honorees for the Women of Distinction are selected through nominations submitted by local municipalities throughout the 94th District. Each nominee is recognized for her outstanding professional achievements, volunteer service and the meaningful impact she has made in the lives of others and within her community. The women chosen represent a wide range of accomplishments, with contributions that may be local, statewide or even national in scope.
Yorktown Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman said, “Serafina is such a deserving recipient of this recognition. Her civic, community and business participation has been amazing, including her family business, Reliable Oil, being recognized in the NYS Historic Business Preservation Registry. I thank Assemblyman Slater for continuing to recognize the women who help to define our community.”
Carmel Town Supervisor Mike Cazzari said, “Marianne has been a dedicated community volunteer for many years, consistently stepping up to assist those in need. During a time when police officers across the nation were facing heightened criticism and being unfairly portrayed, she took meaningful action. As the founder of Back the Blue in our community, Marianne worked to rally local support for law enforcement, fostering unity and appreciation.”
Southeast Town Supervisor Joe Castellano said, “Jennifer Cassidy’s dedication to preserving and sharing our local history strengthens our community. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition as a Woman of Distinction, and thank you for the lasting impact you make every day in the Town of Southeast and across Putnam County.”
Patterson Town Supervisor Richard Williams said, “Angela Maass is a very hardworking person, generously volunteering her time towards the betterment of our Patterson Community. Thank you, Matt Slater for the opportunity to recognize Angela as well as all the Women of Distinction for their contributions.”
Somers Town Supervisor Robert Scorrano said, “Meg Timone represents the very best of Somers. Her dedication to preserving our history, strengthening our community traditions and honoring those who have served is truly exceptional. She gives her time and energy not for recognition, but because she cares deeply about this town and the people in it. Meg’s impact can be seen and felt across Somers, and she is more than deserving of this recognition as a Woman of Distinction.”
Putnam Valley Town Supervisor Alison Jolicoeur said, “Wendy's dedication to the preservation of nature is a clear reflection of her understanding that harmony and balance are the keys to a thriving ecosystem, which includes all of us.”
Kent Deputy Supervisor Chris Ruthven said, “I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this recognition. Supervisor McGlasson exemplifies the very best in the Town of Kent. Her dedication to Family, Faith and Community is second to none. We are very fortunate to have her strong leadership and commitment as we fight for the residents every single day to keep Kent the wonderful Town that it is.”
