SLATER AND AMERICAN RED CROSS HOST SUCCESSFUL BLOOD DRIVE IN CARMEL

Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) partnered with the American Red Cross and the Town of Carmel to host a successful blood drive in Carmel, collecting 20 units of lifesaving blood to help address a critical shortage impacting hospitals and patients across the country.

The drive welcomed 20 donors and collected 20 units of blood. With a single blood donation having the potential to help multiple patients, each donation collected can make an especially meaningful impact.

“I want to thank every person who took the time to roll up their sleeve and donate,” said Slater. “Twenty units of blood represents 20 acts of generosity that can make a real difference for patients and families during a time of critical need. I’m grateful to the American Red Cross, the Town of Carmel and everyone who helped make this drive a success. Our community continues to show that when our neighbors need help, we step up.”

The American Red Cross has declared only the second national blood crisis in its history as blood donations have fallen to a four-year summer low. The shortage threatens the availability of lifesaving blood products for patients who depend on transfusions, making community blood drives and individual donations especially important.

“We are incredibly grateful for the partnership and support of Assemblyman Matt Slater, his office and the Town of Carmel. Their commitment to strengthening the local blood supply and supporting patients in need is truly commendable. During this time of critical need, partnerships like this help ensure lifesaving blood products are available for hospital patients when they need them most,” said Lori Chapman, American Red Cross.

The American Red Cross is urging eligible donors to schedule an appointment to give blood as soon as possible to help rebuild the national blood supply. Those interested in donating or learning more about the current blood crisis can visit the American Red Cross for additional information.
