SLATER: GOVERNOR HOCHUL APPROVES THREE KEY PROPOSALS SUPPORTING 94TH ASSEMBLY DISTRICT COMMUNITIES

Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) is celebrating a significant legislative achievement with Governor Kathy Hochul’s signing of three bills that will directly benefit the Towns of Yorktown, Kent, and Putnam Valley. The newly enacted laws aim to enhance recreational spaces and generate much-needed revenue for community investments.

“I’m proud to have worked with our local leaders to make sure New York State is addressing their individual needs,” said Slater “These bills reflect our commitment to improving the everyday lives of the people we serve. By working together, we’re making sure our communities remain vibrant and sustainable.”

The first bill (A.10161A) authorizes the Town of Yorktown to alienate and discontinue the use of certain parklands. This move will enable the town to repurpose specific land for the purpose of improving wireless capacity for an area that was identified by a regional master plan as needing improvement.

“Assemblyman Slater has been great at working across both sides of the aisle to get things accomplished for our community,” said Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman. “The alienation of the parkland is only the first step in a long process to improve cell phone coverage in that area. It is also an important public-safety initiative.”

The second and third bills (A.9273B) and (A.6776B) permit the lease of sports field fences for advertisements, with all revenues directed solely towards the care and maintenance of Guglielmo Field in the Town of Kent and Leonard Wagner Memorial Park in Putnam Valley. By allowing local businesses to advertise on the fences surrounding the sports field, the town will generate sustainable funding for the upkeep of this cherished community asset.

“I want to thank Assemblyman Slater for his part in passing the recent bill that will help create a new revenue source without increasing taxes or adding any burden on our residents. His efforts in finding balanced solutions that benefit the community are greatly appreciated. This will have a meaningful impact on our ability to provide better services within our Parks and Recreation Department, and we are grateful for his continued support,” said Jacqueline Annabi, Town Supervisor of Putnam Valley.

“The Town of Kent would like to thank Assemblyman Slater for his efforts in passing the recent bill which will create a new revenue stream for our Town. These monies will be used to fund recreational spaces and other investments in our community without increasing taxes. The town board and Kent residents are deeply grateful for Assemblyman Slater’s continued support for our Town,” said Jaime McGlasson, Town Supervisor of Kent.
