Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) recently recognized five talented young artists as winners of his Rev250 Poster Contest, a district-wide contest designed to engage students in the celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary while encouraging them to reflect on the values that have shaped the nation for two and a half centuries.
The contest was held in partnership with the Putnam County Youth Bureau, Putnam Arts Council and libraries throughout the 94th Assembly District. Students were invited to create original artwork highlighting themes of patriotism, honor, freedom, service and America’s rich history as the nation prepares to commemorate its Semiquincentennial in 2026.
“The Rev250 Poster Contest was an opportunity for our young people to connect with our nation’s history and express their appreciation for the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy as Americans,” said Assemblyman Slater. “As we celebrate this milestone in our nation’s history, it is inspiring to see the next generation reflect on the ideals of freedom, democracy and service that continue to define America. I want to congratulate all of the participants for sharing their creativity and patriotism.”
The winners of the 2026 REV250 Poster Contest were:
First Place: Emilia Whitbourne, Grade 5, Haldane Central School District
Second Place: Kate Adams, Grade 5, George Fischer Middle School
Third Place: Abigail Jones, Age 11, Grade 6
Honorable Mentions: Lala Rose Rosini, Grade 4, Fulmar Road Elementary School; and Mae Schneck, Grade 5, Haldane Central School District.
This initiative would not have been possible without the support of our community partners. Their commitment to encouraging youth engagement, artistic expression and civic education helped make this contest a tremendous success.
The Putnam County Youth Bureau said, “We were proud to partner with Assemblyman Matt Slater on the REV250 Poster Contest and help celebrate this important milestone in our nation’s history. We thank all of the students who participated and congratulate the winners for their outstanding creativity, artistic talent and patriotism. Their work reflects a thoughtful appreciation for the ideals and history that continue to shape our country as we approach America’s 250th anniversary.”
The Putnam Arts Council said, “It was a pleasure to have a chance to look at the wonderfully creative submissions to the REV250 poster contest by area school students. The responses were unique and imaginative, which made it difficult to select award winners. We, here at the Putnam Arts Council, are honored to be involved with Assemblyman Slater’s efforts to engage students through the arts.”
