CARMEL PBA ENDORSES MATT SLATER FOR RE-ELECTION

Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) announced today that he has received the endorsement of the Town of Carmel Police Benevolent Association (PBA) in his bid for re-election to the New York State Assembly's 94th District. The association, representing police officers, detectives and sergeants serving the Town of Carmel, cited Slater's continued advocacy for law enforcement, commitment to public safety and legislative efforts to protect officers and residents.
“I am incredibly honored to receive the endorsement of the Carmel Police Benevolent Association,” said Slater. “Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe, and they deserve our respect, support and gratitude. Throughout my time in the Assembly, I have worked closely with our local law enforcement community to address public safety concerns and ensure officers have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. I am grateful for the trust and confidence of the Carmel PBA and look forward to continuing our partnership.”
In its endorsement letter, the Carmel PBA specifically highlighted Slater's work originating and championing the Detective Brian Simonsen Law, enacted as Chapter 543 of the Laws of 2024. Named in honor of an NYPD detective killed while responding to an armed robbery at a cellphone store, the law requires wireless carriers to disable or refuse activation of phones reported stolen and placed on an industry block list. The legislation aims to reduce the profitability of stolen cellphone sales and discourage robberies that put residents and responding officers at risk.
“Your consistent advocacy for law enforcement, public safety and the tools our officers need has demonstrated a clear and unwavering commitment to those who put their lives on the line to keep our community safe,” wrote Carmel PBA President Vincent Serio in the association's endorsement letter.
The association also praised Slater's work on the Detective Brian Simonsen Law as an example of practical public safety legislation, noting its importance in protecting both law enforcement officers and the communities they serve.
“Public safety has always been one of my top priorities, and the Detective Brian Simonsen Law is an example of what we can accomplish when we listen to law enforcement and work together to address real problems,” Slater continued. “I'm proud that this legislation is now law, and I remain committed to working alongside our police officers to keep our communities safe.”
In its letter, the Carmel PBA expressed confidence in Slater's continued commitment to supporting law enforcement and working to maintain public safety throughout the Town of Carmel.
