Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C–Yorktown) has been recognized as the #4 highest-performing freshman lawmaker in New York and ranked among the Top 10 Most Effective Republican Assemblymembers, according to the non-partisan Center for Effective Lawmaking (CEL). Slater earned a designation of “Exceeds Expectations” based on how far his legislation advanced compared to other first-term lawmakers.
The CEL analysis, a joint initiative between Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia, named Slater one of the most effective Republican members of the New York State Assembly for the 2023–2024 legislative session.
“I’m very proud to receive this recognition from the Center for Effective Lawmaking,” said Slater. “My focus every day is on delivering results for the Hudson Valley, improving quality of life and addressing the needs of the local families and communities I represent. This recognition reflects my commitment to effective lawmaking for all, no matter the party, which is achieved through the strong collaboration I’ve built with colleagues on both sides of the aisle.”
The Center for Effective Lawmaking evaluates every state legislator using 15 metrics that measure bill sponsorship, progress through the legislative process and the substantive significance of their proposals. The full New York Legislative Effectiveness report is available here.
