Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown), in partnership with state Sen. Rob Rolison (R-Poughkeepsie), hosted a successful community Shred Fest on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Putnam Valley Elementary School. The event welcomed approximately 50 residents and resulted in several thousand pounds of paper being securely shredded, providing community members with a free and convenient way to safely dispose of sensitive documents and protect their personal information.

The drive-through event let residents safely discard unwanted paperwork containing personal information, including old financial records, bank statements and other confidential documents. Participants were able to remain in their vehicles while event volunteers assisted with unloading materials for secure shredding.

“Protecting your personal information is more important than ever, and events like this give residents a simple, convenient way to take that extra step toward preventing identity theft,” said Slater. “I am grateful to Sen. Rolison for partnering with us and to everyone who took the time to participate. Providing these services directly to our communities is an important part of what we do, and I look forward to continuing to offer opportunities like this throughout the district.”

Sen. Rolison said, “Identity theft and fraud impact millions of Americans every year, and securely disposing of sensitive documents is one way we can help residents protect themselves. Our free shred events are a simple but important service we can provide to help keep our communities safe. The strong turnout at this weekend’s event in Putnam County reinforces the need for these services and our commitment to making them accessible to residents. I want to thank Assemblyman Matt Slater for partnering with us to make this event possible.”

The event was organized to make secure document disposal accessible to residents while encouraging responsible disposal practices. By providing a designated collection opportunity, the Shred Fest helped residents clear out unwanted paperwork while reducing the risk of sensitive personal information falling into the wrong hands.

Slater thanked Sen. Rolison, event volunteers and the Putnam Valley community for their participation and support in making the event possible.
