SLATER APPLAUDS $5 MILLION GRANT FOR CARMEL WATER INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS
Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) today applauded the announcement of $5 million in state funding awarded to the Town of Carmel for critical upgrades to its Water District No. 2 Treatment Plant. Slater commended Carmel Town Councilman Robert Kearns for his leadership and tireless efforts to secure the funding, which will help modernize aging infrastructure while easing the financial burden on local taxpayers.
The funding was awarded through the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation’s Water Infrastructure Improvement (WIIA) grant program as part of a statewide investment in drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.
“This $5 million investment is a tremendous win for the Town of Carmel and the hardworking taxpayers who depend on safe, reliable drinking water,” said Slater. “I want to especially applaud Councilman Robert Kearns for his outstanding leadership and determination in helping secure this critical funding. Robert has been a relentless advocate for his community, working to ensure these necessary improvements move forward without placing an unnecessary financial burden on local families. His commitment to delivering results and protecting taxpayers is exactly the kind of leadership our communities deserve.”
“Securing this $5 million WIIA grant is a tremendous victory for the taxpayers of the Town of Carmel. From the beginning, I pushed our grant team to explore every possible funding opportunity to help reduce the financial burden of the Carmel Water District #2 project. That effort included conducting a comprehensive income survey to help position the Town to qualify for this critical funding. This is what happens when you refuse to accept the status quo, explore every available option, and surround yourself with people who are committed to delivering results. At the end of the day, this is a $5 million win for the residents and taxpayers of Carmel,” said Councilman Rob Kearns.
The funding will support upgrades to Carmel’s Water District No. 2 Treatment Plant, helping to address aging infrastructure and strengthen the long-term reliability of the community’s drinking water system. The investment will also help offset project costs that would otherwise fall heavily on local ratepayers.
“Investments in our water infrastructure are investments in public health, economic stability and the future of our communities,” Slater continued. “By securing state resources for these essential improvements, we can protect our drinking water while keeping affordability at the forefront. I commend Councilman Kearns and the Town of Carmel for their continued efforts to make this project a reality.”
The $5 million award was announced as part of nearly $500 million in state grants supporting 106 water infrastructure projects across New York. The funding is intended to help municipalities address critical infrastructure needs while reducing costs for residents and businesses.
Slater reaffirmed his commitment to working alongside local officials to secure additional infrastructure investments throughout the 94th Assembly District and ensure communities have the resources necessary to maintain essential services.
