SLATER: HOCHUL’S PRISON CLOSURE ANTI LAW ENFORCEMENT

“Under existing New York law, closing a prison requires a minimum of one year, yet this new anti law enforcement proposal aims to compress that timeframe to just 90 days. Closing a correctional facility that houses approximately 500 inmates within such a short period poses logistical challenges, making it practically impossible to ensure the proper care of both employees and inmates.

Time and time again, the governor has proposed ridiculous anti law enforcement policies that do nothing but drive our police and corrections offices away and the numbers are there to prove that. Our focus should be directed toward enhancing the safety of these facilities for the correctional officers and dedicated support staff who diligently work each day to maintain our safety and security. ”
