Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) has teamed up with the Putnam Community Action Partnership to launch a Back-to-School Supplies Drive to help school-age children in need prepare for the upcoming school year.
The drive is currently accepting new, sturdy backpacks suitable for elementary through high school students, as well as $25 gift cards to Staples, Target or Walmart. Donations will be accepted through Wednesday, Aug. 12 at multiple drop-off locations throughout Putnam and Westchester counties.
“Every child deserves to walk into school on the first day feeling confident, prepared and ready to learn,” said Slater. “For families facing financial challenges, the cost of back-to-school necessities can quickly add up. I am proud to once again partner with Putnam CAP and our local communities to help ease that burden and make sure our students have what they need for a successful school year. I encourage anyone who can to donate a backpack or gift card and help us make a difference for a local family.”
Donations can be dropped off at Putnam CAP in Brewster, Carmel Town Hall, Kent Town Hall, Southeast Town Hall, Putnam Valley Town Hall, Patterson Recreation Center, Yorktown Town Hall and Somers Town Hall through Aug. 12.
“Last year, we saw firsthand how generous our community can be when neighbors are asked to step up for local families,” Slater added. “I know we can build on that success again this year and help even more students head back to the classroom ready to learn.”
