For the fifth year in a row, Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) joined students, teachers and local officials to take part in Operation Cupid, an annual initiative organized in partnership with United for the Troops that sends care packages and handwritten cards to active-duty service members stationed around the world.
On Friday, Jan. 16, Slater participated in donation pickups at schools in the Yorktown Central School District and Mahopac Central School District, where students contributed letters and supplies to show their appreciation for the men and women serving overseas.
“Our community knows how to support others, especially our service members who are far from home,” said Slater. “We look forward to this initiative every year because the students truly enjoy participating, and our servicemen and women appreciate the care and creativity that go into these projects. Thank you, as always, to United for Troops for ensuring our troops are cared for, and thank you to all the participating schools for encouraging students to come together in support of those who serve.”
Jim Rathschmidt, co-founder of United for the Troops said, “I want to extend our sincere thanks to Assemblyman Matt Slater, the school districts and our incredible community for coming together in support of our mission. Because of your generosity and commitment, we are able to bring comfort and a reminder of home to our troops serving overseas. The cards and care package items collected will go a long way in lifting the spirits of the men and women who are currently stationed abroad protecting our nation. We are truly grateful for this partnership and the impact it continues to have on those who serve.”
Dr. Ronald Hattar, superintendent of Yorktown Central School District said, “We’re proud of our students for their incredible outpouring of support for our U.S. service members stationed overseas. Their efforts are a testament to their empathy and sense of civic duty.”
Frank Miele, superintendent of Mahopac Central School District said, “Mahopac District is grateful for the opportunity to partner with Assemblyman Slater and United for the Troops to serve our troops in this heartfelt way. We are grateful for their service.”
