SLATER, HARCKHAM ANNOUNCE $4.7 MILLION ROUTE 311 PAVING PROJECT, PART OF MORE THAN $121 MILLION INVESTMENT IN HUDSON VALLEY ROADS

ree

Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) and Sen. Pete Harckham (D,WF-40th Senate District) are happy to announce $4.7 million in state funding to resurface Route 311 from Route 52 to the Empire State Trail in the Towns of Kent and Patterson in Putnam County. This project is part of a broader $121 million investment in the Mid-Hudson region that will repave 195 lane miles across 13 separate projects in 2026.

“This is a triumph for our local roads,” said Assemblyman Slater. “For years, we’ve been pushing for funding to accurately meet the needs of our roads. Many, such as Route 311, have deteriorated and are in desperate need of repair. This is a fundamental investment for the safety of our commuters and pedestrians. However, there is a big caveat: Despite our region being the most asset-heavy DOT region in the state, it has long been underfunded. In 2021, we received just 9% of DOT’s capital program, despite maintaining roughly 15% of the state’s highway system. Alongside Sen. Harckham and our local partners, we will continue the fight for increased, fair funding to secure our proper share and keep our roads safe and maintained.”

Sen. Harckham said, “For far too long, Route 311 has needed meaningful attention, and this resurfacing project will greatly improve safety and reliability for the thousands of residents, commuters, and businesses that rely on it every day. I’m grateful to Assemblyman Slater and our local partners for working together to ensure our communities receive the resources they deserve. We will continue advocating for fair, sustained funding so that all of our roadways remain safe, functional, and fit for the future.”

“This is a win for the residents of Kent,” said Kent Town Supervisor Jaime McGlasson. “The condition of Route 311 has gone on far too long, and I’m glad to see action finally being taken. I thank Assemblyman Matt Slater, Senator Pete Harkham and the DOT for listening to our community and prioritizing this project.”

Patterson Town Supervisor Rich Williams said “I am thrilled to learn the wonderful news that NYSDOT will be repaving the worst section of Route 311next year. I am grateful to both Senator Peter Harckham and Assemblyman Matt Slater for their continued support of the Patterson community.”

The 2026 Mid-Hudson paving projects also include:

  • $19.2 million to resurface Route 9A from Belmont Road to North State Road in the Towns of Ossining and Mount Pleasant and Village of Briarcliff Manor, Westchester County.

  • $9.6 million to resurface U.S. Route 1 and Putnam Avenue from the I-287 interchange to the New York–Connecticut State Line on U.S. Route 1 and from Route 120A to U.S. Route 1 on Putnam Avenue in the Town of Rye and Village of Port Chester, Westchester County.

  • $33.6 million to resurface Interstate 287 from Westchester Avenue to State Route 119 in the Towns of Greenburgh and Harrison, Villages of Elmsford and Harrison, and City of White Plains, Westchester County.
