Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) and the Putnam Community Action Partnership (CAP) have officially concluded their third annual feminine hygiene drive, once again rallying the community to support local women and teens in need of essential care products.
Throughout the month of May, residents across the 94th Assembly District generously contributed to the effort, donating feminine hygiene products to help ensure no woman or teen in Putnam County goes without the basic necessities many take for granted. More than 150 low-income females will benefit from the donations.
“Our community steps up when it matters most,” said Slater. “Thanks to everyone who donated and to our local governments that hosted drop-off locations and of course to our friends at Putnam CAP. I’m proud to work with Putnam CAP to meet this critical need and continue advocating for policy changes that reflect the realities women face every day.”
Feminine hygiene products are not currently eligible for purchase through Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, which leaves many low-income families without access to these vital items. Slater has sponsored legislation (A.7655) to change that by allowing SNAP to cover the cost of menstrual products.
Director of Putnam CAP Marisa O’Leary said, “By providing low-income girls and women with these essential supplies, we are not only addressing a critical health need but also breaking down barriers to education, employment and overall well-being. We are so grateful for Assemblyman Slater’s support in ensuring our community's equitable access to feminine hygiene products.”
