Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C–Yorktown) has announced his campaign for re-election to the New York State Assembly, representing the 94th Assembly District. First elected in 2022, Slater represents parts of Putnam and Westchester counties, including the towns of Kent, Patterson, Putnam Valley, Carmel, Southeast, Somers and Yorktown, as well as the Village of Brewster.
Slater was joined for the announcement on Monday by friends, neighbors and community leaders who share a commitment to the future of the Hudson Valley. He thanked his family and local and state partners, including Rep. Mike Lawler, County Executive Kevin Byrne and County Clerk Michael Bartolotti, for their support and continued collaboration in delivering results for the Hudson Valley communities.
“When I first ran for the Assembly, I promised to focus on results, and that’s exactly what we’ve done,” Slater said. “We delivered the largest property tax cut in Putnam County history, building on a record of fiscal responsibility that included two earlier tax cuts when I served as Yorktown supervisor.”
During his tenure, Slater has secured more than $30 million in state funding for local priorities—fixing roads and bridges, modernizing libraries, supporting police and fire services and assisting veterans—making sure the Hudson Valley receives its fair share. He also championed the expansion of free school meals for every student, which was enacted in last year’s state budget, and strengthened public safety through common-sense reforms such as the Detective Brian Simonsen Law, which helps law enforcement combat organized retail theft and protect communities.
“That record is why I was honored to be recognized as one of the most effective freshman legislators in New York state,” Slater continued. “But my favorite—and the most important—part of this job isn’t passing bills or cutting ribbons. It’s helping people. Thanks to our phenomenal staff, we’ve successfully closed nearly 2,000 constituent cases.”
Slater drew a clear contrast between his vision for New York and the policies advanced by leaders in Albany and New York City.
“Here in the Hudson Valley, we believe in freedom, responsibility and opportunity. Ideas coming out of New York City, represented by voices like Zohran Mamdani, favor higher taxes, more government control and fewer choices for families. I believe that approach is fundamentally wrong for New York. Under Gov. Kathy Hochul’s administration, spending keeps growing while affordability continues to shrink.”
Looking ahead, Slater said his priorities remain focused on making New York more affordable by cutting taxes, controlling spending and lowering the cost of living for families and small businesses. He also pledged to address soaring energy costs that are driving up electric and heating bills and to fight for practical energy policies that protect reliability while keeping costs down for ratepayers.
“I believe in America, and I’m proud to say it. I believe in freedom over control. New Yorkers deserve leaders who are willing to stand up—respectfully, firmly and consistently—for those principles. That’s the approach I’ve taken as your Assemblyman, and it’s the approach I’ll continue to take when you send me back to Albany. I am proud to be running for re-election, and together we’ll keep getting the job done for the 94th Assembly District,” Slater concluded.
